LOW ROPES CHALLENGE COURSE
Our low course consists of 15 elements of varying degrees of difficulty. Each element is located along a secluded trail, allowing the group to focus on specific challenges. The course includes many traditional elements such as Birthday Log and Integrated Circuit, along with unique elements, such as Mission Impossible. Emphasis is placed on the group process, with time for debriefing and processing.
We require groups to demonstrate a certain level of group work, trust and maturity before experiencing the Low Course.
HIGH ROPES CHALLENGE COURSE
The emphasis at High Ropes is on individual accomplishment, personal goal setting, and group encouragement. The High Ropes Course consists of several linked elements and a 250-foot-long zip line, set in the canopy of a mature white pine forest. Our 45-foot high pole-based course is accessed by ladders.
We create a culture of safety and an atmosphere of trust. Participants are “on-belay” at all times off the ground, with all transfers and clips made and checked by trained YMCA Challenge Course staff.
This program is time- and staff-intensive, so please discuss with us how this activity fits into your schedule. High Ropes will close during and after rain.
Individuals must fit harnesses and helmets, and respond to safety instruction. Participation in the Challenge Course program is at the discretion of the Challenge Course staff.
Set in the middle of Camp Burgess, our 30-foot climbing tower is often one of the highlights of a stay at camp. Our philosophy is based on individual accomplishment, personal goal setting, and group encouragement. Everyone is challenged to push themselves as far as is comfortable, regardless of whether it is two-feet or 30-feet off the ground.
Routes vary from beginner to advanced, with overhangs and chimney routes on the middle section. Climbing Tower participants are on belay at all times with a trained YMCA staff member. The Climbing Tower will close during and after rain.
Individuals must fit harnesses and helmets, and respond to safety instruction. Participation in the Climbing Tower program is at the discretion of the Challenge Course staff.
A small rock wall is available inside the Climbing Tower area. This wall is for downtime use during scheduled Climbing Tower sessions. The goal is to get warmed up, work on technique, and have fun!
